Sharara and gharara, the classic way to dress up

The sharara and gharara are the oldest party silhouettes we have: a short or mid-length shirt over wide, flared trousers. Easier to move in than a lehenga, and more festive than straight trousers.

A gharara is gathered at the knee; a sharara flares from the hip. Both belong at the mehndi and look just as right at a walima.

Questions people ask

What's the difference between a sharara and a gharara?

A sharara flares from the hip like wide trousers. A gharara is fitted to the knee, gathered there, then flares out.

Can I dance in a sharara?

Yes, that's half the point. It's the easiest formal silhouette to move in, which is why it's a mehndi favourite.
